A brisk south-westerly lifted the menagerie of cartoon character kites over the crescent of Trawmore strand in Keel.
Giant-sized, inflatable kites rising, trailing, bobbing and dancing in a colourful aerial carnival under a sun-warmed Achill island.

Above the throngs, a dazzlingly blue and white sky of sun and cloud was dotted with vibrantly coloured kites of all shapes and sizes to match the carefree summer mood of this mid-July Saturday.
An alien spaceship, giant fish, exotic marine creatures and a teddy bear, tethered to cars and vans, cast their waving shadows on the golden sand below.
For once, Trawmore’s spectacular backdrop of Minaun’s towering cliffs found it hard to compete for the attention of the hundreds of holidaymakers, gazing skywards at the fun spectacle that was The Mayo International Kite Festival – Achill Island 2019.
